We take a closer look at tourism in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship

What is tourism in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship really like? Where do visitors come from, where do they travel to, what attracts them, where do they stay for longer, and how do they rate their experiences? To develop tourism effectively, one must first understand it well.

On 13 August 2026, the University of Economy in Bydgoszcz, in collaboration with Vobacom, signed an agreement with the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship to carry out the ‘Tourism Barometer’ project. This is the first step towards implementing a solution designed to provide a much more detailed insight into tourism in the region – by combining research, data from various sources and modern technologies.

For over three decades, the University of Economy in Bydgoszcz has been involved in the tourism sector – training staff, conducting research and expert analyses, and developing knowledge on tourist flows and their significance for the region. In 2023, our experts – Dr Mariusz Barczak, Dr Robert Brudnicki and Sandra Wierzbiańska – developed a proprietary methodology for researching tourist traffic in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. Today, this knowledge is moving from concept to practical implementation.

The second pillar of the project is technology. Vobacom, a Toruń-based company specialising in the design of bespoke software and research and development solutions, is responsible for creating a website and software enabling the collection and integration of data from various sources, including in real time.

The project will also involve research into tourist traffic. The barometer will combine, amongst other things, the results of surveys of tourists and visitors, traffic monitoring in selected locations, and information on accommodation and tourist attractions.

Why study tourism in such detail?

The Barometer currently being developed is intended to create a new, comprehensive way of monitoring tourism in the region. The better we understand visitors’ behaviour and needs, the more precisely we can develop our offering, plan investments and infrastructure, enhance the appeal of destinations, and assess the effectiveness of the measures taken.

The Barometer is intended to provide insights that will help local authorities and the tourism industry make decisions based on data, rather than intuition alone. It will enable a better understanding of the scale and structure of tourist traffic, visitor behaviour, visitor satisfaction and the importance of tourism to the region’s economy.

The project brings together three areas of expertise: WSG’s know-how, built up over more than 30 years; Vobacom’s technological expertise; and the tourism potential of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship.

This is the first step. Ahead of us lies the development of the tool, research and years of work to gain an even better understanding of tourism in our region.

The ‘Barometr ruchu turystycznego’ project is being carried out as part of the task entitled ‘Budowa strony internetowej z oprogramowaniem do pozyskiwania danych z różnych źródeł, w tym w czasie rzeczywistym wraz z przeprowadzeniem badań ruchu turystycznego w województwie kujawsko-pomorskim w latach 2026–2028 pn. „Barometr ruchu turystycznego" '.
